Andy: This rum does not have a very strong aroma. The taste is not bad, and it has quite a bite and a little harshness, but that seems to complement it. You can taste the quality and the age. It is very rich. Not my absolute favorite straight as Mount Gay Extra Old goes down smoother. After mixing with Pepsi One, I find it gets lost in the soda. This is not a rum to be enjoyed with mixers. Zaya 12 year is a little fruitier and with Ron Zacapa being around $40 a bottle I don’t think it is worth the extra money.
Adrian: Widely recognized around the world to be one of the best rums, it is a very rich rum from beginning to end. It is very nice with no strong or harsh flavors. Mixing it with cola, the richness has turned into sweetness. If you drink this rum side by side with the Zaya 12 year, they taste pretty similar, a very minute difference.
