Andy: This is another excellent rum from our friends at Old New Orleans. It’s very smooth, slightly sweet, and really tasty even straight or on the rocks. I would consider this to be a very fairly priced sipping rum. It’s excellent even mixed with just the kiss of Coke Zero. I think this rum is in the $20-$25 range and it’s a steal at that price. For the combination of price, taste, smoothness and flavor, it’s amazing. If you can find it…buy it. | |||||||||||||||
Adrian: This is unbelievable for a 3 year rum. It’s very smooth and has a sweetness to it that I’m not used to for a 3 year. Definitely one to remember and have on hand at the house. |

Don’t know about the spiced version, but the Old New Orleans non-spiced line is the most over rated rum on the market. The ten year is nothing less than gut wrenching. Just awful. The $12 Cruzan dwarfs the Old New Orleans three year.

I have to disagree with Philip. Old New Orleans is not overrated at all and saying that the 10 year is gut wrenching is harsh. He didn’t say whether or not he drank it straight or with a mixer. The 10 year is definitely the best in the line, my husband and I like it mixed with apricot nectar. Although I avoid soft drinks, I have tried it with regular Coke and it tastes really smooth. As you said Adrian, the 3 year is a great one to have on hand.

This one is a bit surprising just like the Plantation Grande Reserve. You understand its origins and that it makes good drinks with very little volume of mixer. Overhyped! Well it’s Anerican. We tend to overhype a lot of things. I would just go on what my palate tells me to do with any certain rum after giving it a half a shot in a whisky glass with one ice cube. I don’t keep a bottle of this in the cabinet but I would prefer this in my hurricane over generic silver rum. Plus it’s local.
